Groundwork North East & Cumbria work on hundreds of projects every year, helping communities find practical solutions to the challenges they face.  Our work ranges from small local projects to multi-million pound regional partnerships.We help over 500 people into employment each year.  We offer training, support and advice and promote social action.


Our Vision: Groundwork aims to help people and organisations make changes to create better neighborhoods, to build skills and job prospects, and to live and work in a greener way.


Journey 2 Work (brief summary) Journey 2 Work is a voluntary programme funded by the Europe Social Fund. We can provide specialised support, guidance & advice to help those who may struggle in finding work, Journey 2 Work understand that everybody is different and aim to help make a real difference to people’s lives in finding work.

Those wishing to participate on Journey 2 Work must be on benefits and over the age of 16. Journey 2 Work is in partnership with G4S and funded by the European Social Fund and the Department for Work & Pensions.


Journey to work will help you to:

  • Access job opportunities
  • Access fully funded accredited courses
  • Create a professional CV that stands out
  • Improve your interview technique to impress employers
  • Make the most of in-work benefits
  • Get peace of mind through debt and money advice
  • You can also access free training to sharpen your IT skills and get ready for your NEW job!
  • Search for vacancies & apply for roles.


Choices (brief summary)

Choices is a voluntary programme with bespoke support for those facing the greatest difficulties to be ready to move into employment, education or job searching. It has brought together 12 well respected organisations who want to make a real difference to people’s lives. With one-to-one support it can help achieve goals and enable people to move into education, training, job searching or employment.


Offering specialist support to those who (not exclusive);

  • Are ex-carers or if you are a carer and that role is coming to an end
  • Have learning difficulties or physical or mental disabilities
  • Struggle with numeracy and literacy skills
  • Have had substance dependency issues
  • Have mental health issues that you would like to better manage
  • Have benefit, housing or financial problems
  • Have a lack of work experience
  • Would like to rebuild confidence
