Sight Advice South Lakes offers information, advice and support to those who are visually impaired (anyone with sight problems, you don’t have to be blind) and to those who combined hearing and sight loss. It has recently changed its name from South Lakes Society for the Blind.

We provide:

  •  a Sight Advice Centre which displays equipment and technology aids which is open Wednesday 1.00pm – 4.00pm, Thursday 9.30am – 12.30pm, & Friday 9.30am – 12.30pm. Staff and volunteers are available to discuss suitable assistance. We can arrange home visits for anyone unable to visit our Sight Advice Centre.

  •  a hospital information desk at Westmorland General Hospital

  •  information sessions for anyone who has been registered as blind or partially sighted

  • monthly support and discussion groups

  • activity groups for visually impaired people, including children and their carers,

  •  support groups and individual support to those with a combined sight and hearing loss and their carers,

  •  IT advice and support for individuals at the sight advice centre and home visits if required

  •  a user consultative forum

  •  a bi-monthly newsletter

Sight Advice offers services throughout the area covered by South Lakes District Council, except

Grange and Ulverston (which are covered by Barrow and Districts Society for the Blind Ltd).
