Many local third sector organisations, churches and community groups have already expressed an interest in helping to support these individuals when they arrive in Cumbria. Cumbria Third Sector Network are working closely with Cumbria County Council (and other public sector organisations) to coordinate that work.

Ways into Successful Enterprise

Dear Stakeholders

I am writing to inform you that from 1st April 2016, the Ways Into Successful Enterprise programme (WISE) will close.

The WISE programme has been running for nine years and in 2012 became fully supported by Allerdale Borough Council and Britain’s Energy Coast.

When WISE began almost a decade ago it provided a vital place for the people of West Cumbria to explore options around employment, retraining and self-employment. Critically, the programme was never about numbers and more about engaging with each person who came through the door to assess their personal needs and help them to make the best career choice.

Almost 3,000 people have received expert help from the team at WISE and we are delighted to say that we have kept in touch with many of them, and have seen them flourish – often thrive in self-employment, creating more jobs in the region with their businesses.

However, the business support landscape has changed considerably in the last decade and there is no longer the gap in the market that makes the WISE project viable. Support can be found for our WISE clients through better funded, county wide projects. As such, continued expenditure on the programme would be a poor use of funding.

We are very proud of the WISE team and everything they have achieved.

Yours faithfully,

Michael Pemberton

CEO, Britain’s Energy Coast
