Empowers the Voice of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) People and Communities in Cumbria.


AWAZ Cumbria aims to create strong and vibrant BME communities, fully engaged in the decisions which affect their growth and development.


Our vision is to make Cumbria a place where:

  • Everyone is welcomed to live, learn, work, visit and conduct business
  • People respect and celebrate ethnic and cultural diversity and maintain their heritage
  • All communities working together to tackle discrimination


AWAZ Cumbria provides:

  • Advocacy: On public policy and for BME people in difficult situations
  • Community Engagement:  Empowering Voices and participation in strategic consultations
  • Community Development:  Specialist community infrastructure development projects and assistance with setting up and maintaining BME groups and social enterprises.
  • Consultancy: Research and training on tackling Hate Crime, and advancing Equality, Diversity and Human Rights.
  • On Line Resources: Model documents and policies, Email Newsletter and Website with news, opportunities, events, fact sheets, links, calendar and more.


Visit           AWAZ means "Voice" in several European, Middle Eastern and Asian Languages
