We provide a free Home Fire Safety Visit (HFSV) service to all households throughout Cumbria. During this visit we will help you design a fire escape plan so that you and your family will know how to react in the event of a fire in your home. We also provide a free smoke alarm where necessary. We have specialist advocates throughout the county, who work as part of our community safety team. These advocates work with older people, vulnerable adults, BME & Migrant workers and those with drug and alcohol issues – providing specialist advice and working with partner agencies to improve quality of life. We also work in partnership with the local MARAC (multi-agency risk assessment conference), helping victims of domestic violence. We are able to fit anti-arson letterbox covers and provide fire safety advice to victims of domestic violence who are at risk of threats of arson.

We have over 50 community volunteers, who assist the service in various community activities including the delivery of Heart Start training, assisting with the portable arena (soccer cage) and climbing wall.

We deliver an excellent schools education package and deliver key stage 1 & 2 throughout the county. This includes educating the children in the importance of having a working smoke alarm and fire escape plan, as well as the dangers of playing with matches. As part of our education package and youth engagement strategy we also deliver road awareness training (RAT) to pupils in year 10 through to college & sixth form. This educates new and future drivers in the dangers on our roads and consequences of things like speeding, drink/drug driving, and not wearing a seatbelt, for example.
