Homelife Carlisle is a Home Improvement Agency provided by Carlisle City Council. We are able to provide the following services to help improve the lives of the residents of Carlisle and district:

 

Discretionary Housing Grants

Free Grants are available with the aim of assisting home owners within Carlisle and District to have:

  • increased independence, safety and to minimise the effects of disability and poor health
  • to enable carers to continue care and
  • prevention of admission to more institutionalised care and to hospital

 

Minor Measures Grant

Grants up to the value of £500 are available for certain minor measures to support good health prevention. The following types of works are eligible for a grant including key-safes, deep-cleans and gas boiler and fire servicing.

Who can apply?

Home owners who:

  • are in receipt of disability benefit such as PIP, DLA or ESA
  • OR be in receipt of a means-tested benefit
  • OR have a gross annual household income of less than £25,000
  • OR require the works to assist with hospital discharge

 

Safe and Warm Grants

Grants of up to £7,500 are available to enable low income home-owners to carry out a range of home repairs and energy efficiency measures to make their homes safer and warmer.

 

The following types of works will be considered for a grant at the City Council's HIA discretion:

  • Cavity wall and loft insulation
  • Electrical work to make homes safer
  • Draught-proofing including glazing
  • New heating systems
  • Heating repairs and replacements
  • Private water supply issues

Who can apply?

Low income home owners  including

  • in receipt of a disability benefit OR
  • in receipt of a means-tested benefit OR
  • over 50 years of age

Foundations Independent Living Trust (F.I.L.T) Grants

Health Through Warmth Crisis Grants:

Homelife Carlisle are able to apply for FILT npower Health Through Warmth grants towards new heating and home energy efficiency measures (such as draught-proofing) as well as heating repairs on behalf of residents. To qualify applicants need to have a long-term, cold related illness made worse by cold living conditions due to inadequate heating or insulation.

 

Gas Safety Grants

Homelife also have grants up to £500 from Gas Safety to provide preventative services that directly address the risks of death, injuries and illness caused by dangerous gas work and appliance.

The following types of essential minor work may be carried out by using the Grant Scheme funding: Gas Safety Checks; Gas Servicing; Gas Boiler Repairs; Gas Cookers; Fires; Gas Pipework; Water Heaters.
