South Lakeland Carers are a local charity that support over 1,000 carers aged 5-94 years old. Our free services, wonderful volunteers and staff help unpaid carers to care for longer.

Free services provided by South Lakeland Carers:

  • Carer's Assessment - provides an opportunity for the carer to work through a number of structured questions which enbles them to gauge the extent of their caring role and the impact that the role has on various aspects of their lives e.g. health, leisure, social contacts, finances, ability to work, relationships etc.
  • Carer's Emergency Card Scheme - provides peace of mind in an emergency situation where the carer is unable to provide their regular support. Carers carry an emergency card and a support plan is prepared for the cared-for-person.
  • One to One Support - provided by Carers Support Workers.
  • Carers Support Group - meet in various locations monthly and provide an opportunity for peer support and access to information. May also relieve feelings of isolation.
  • Lunch Club - monthly in Kendal
  • Newsletter - produced quarterly with the help of volunteers. Information, signposting and news of events and social activities.
  • Sitting Service - enbles the carer to have some occasional time out by placing a trained volunteer sitter to support the cared for person during the carers absence.
  • Carers Trips - carers days out to places of interest to provide a short break from the caring routine.
  • Relaxation Therapies - trained complementary therapists offer access to a range of relaxation therapies for the relief of stress e.g. Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Reiki, Indian Head Massage.
  • Young Carers Project - 5 to 18 years.
