We are a constituted group of parents/carers/grandparents/foster carers in Cumbria who have children with disabilities and/or additional needs who are particularly keen that their views are heard, understood and acted upon.

We actively strive to work with, inform and influence the development of all services for all children and young adults with disabilities and/or additional needs in Cumbria - as first recommended by the previous government in "Aiming high for disabled children: better support for families" - May 2007. Parents/carers/grandparents/foster carers with a child/ren with disabilities and/or additional needs. Meeting and working together for support and change.

We cover the whole of Cumbria split down into six localities, Allerdale, Copeland, Carlisle, Eden, South Lakes and Furness. In each locality we have a local forum and the forums elect representatives to the countywide steering group. We are currently funded by DFES Contact a Family and Cumbria County Council Children's Services.

Each year, we receive £10,000 from The Department for Education to increase parent participation. This year, we have received a further £5,000 to increase support and opportunities. We have just had confirmation that we are getting an extra £5,000 for 2015/2016.

Our support as a forum, is provided by Contact a Family who provide trainers and regional advisers linking into the National Network of Parent Carer forums, giving us a national voice.

We also get £10.000 from the Local Authority to do specific work on behalf and in agreement with both CPCF & the Local Authority.
