Liaison and Diversion Services operate within police custody and magistrates courts to ensure that those with mental health conditions, learning disabilities or other vulnerabilities can access specialist support when in contact with the criminal justice system.

The service user can either be supported through the criminal justice pathway or diverted into treatment, social care service, other relevant intervention or support service.

Liaison and Diversion services aim to improve health outcomes, reduce re-offending and identify vulnerabilities earlier, thus reducing the likelihood that offenders will reach crisis point.

In Cumbria, Liaison and Diversion services operate 5 days a week between the working hours of 8am to 4pm; however the service does accept out of hours referrals.
